Hi Corporate Trade Resisters!

On November 30, 2018 the US, Canada, and Mexico signed the new NAFTA. Now we must stop it in Congress like we stopped the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). Our next call will be sometime in early 2019. Keep an eye out for when we announce the date! For now, listen to the recordings of our December 18th webinar which includes a Congress update and action trainings and November 13th webinar which includes a discussion of the USMCA text.

Trump’s new NAFTA builds on the original deal written by and for multinational corporations at the expense of people and the environment and includes hazardous provisions from the TPP. The new NAFTA, dubbed the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), was released in late September of this year. See our analysis here.

The USMCA is a bad deal for the environment. It has no enforceable environmental protections, rolls back environmental standards of past trade deals, encourages fracking, gives handouts to oil and gas companies, and fails to even mention climate change.

It is a bad deal for workers. As Citizen’s Trade Campaign states: “Mexican workers will continue to be horribly exploited, American jobs will continue to be outsourced…and the wages for workers in all three NAFTA countries will continue to decline.”

USMCA is a bad deal for food and health sovereignty. It would undermine food safety inspections and food labeling laws, further deregulate GMOs, and increase the cost of pharmaceuticals by extending market exclusivity for biologic drugs.

We used this call network in the fight to stop the TPP, now let’s use it to stop the corporate USMCA and promote alternatives that prioritize the environment, workers, and democracy. #NoNewNAFTA.
